ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm A'Daja,
and the future no longer terrifies me.
Still cannot believe that I can say I have a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts in English Literature and African & African American Studies. I started as a brainchild my freshmen year of college and went through a debut and rebrand my sophomore year. And sitting here now in my hometown typing this feels weird while being so far removed from the city and people and campus I spent the last four years of my life calling home.
This blog initially functioned as a way for me to share my thoughts on college life, document my natural hair journey (after having started experimenting with bleaching and dyeing my hair), and just to have a creative outlet outside of class. And at the time this made total sense. I was blogging consistently for my university's blog site and was taking writing courses, and my passion for writing was at an all time high. But as my major advisor warned me pretty early on into my college career "too much of a good thing can sometimes become a bad thing". Not to say I fell out of love with storytelling. Or that picking up a pen and paper wasn't my go to in any situation. Just that breaks are healthy and good.
So I took a break which turned into an indefinite hiatus which turned into burnout and stress and the underlying and invasive pressure to finish college within four years despite a pandemic sweeping the globe. I know, I know, it's 2023 and we're still talking about Covid? But it's true and life happens even when we're unprepared. I'm learning that A LOT! But I'm also learning patience, and discipline, and how to file taxes with a little bit of guidance from my mother.
Anyway, if you want to stick around for more rants or moments of realness then be my pleasure. Because I'm back and [insert cheesy cliche phrase here].
Th future is whatever you make of it. So, what is there to be afraid of? It's your story, so write it.
